COURSE OVERVIEW

Our SIA-approved Level 2 Award for Security Officers in the Private Security Industry course provides a comprehensive package of skills, delivered in a diverse range of environments, and in a number of challenging and realistic scenarios. 


This qualification is designed for learners wishing to apply for a licence from the Security Industry Authority (SIA) to work as a security officer and is based on the relevant SIA specification for learning and qualifications. The role of the security guard is an ever evolving role with a corresponding increase in complexity and responsibility.  The risk of criminal attack, terrorism or general emergency situations has placed an increasing demand on the security sector. Personnel need to be trained and licensed to operate in a wide variety of disciplines to meet the current challenges.


Topics include the main characteristics of the Private Security Industry, the importance of safe working practices, roles and responsibilities of security officers, drug-misuse legislation, issues and procedures relevant to the role of a security officer, how to conduct effective search procedures, queue management, how to recognise, assess and reduce risk in conflict situations and problem-solving techniques when resolving conflict.

COURSE SYLLABUS 

The course is separated into three Units:

Unit 1 - Principles of working in the private security industry

  • Know the main characteristics and purposes of the private security industry 
  • Understand legislation as it applies to a security operative
  • Understand arrest procedures relevant to security operatives
  • Understand the importance of safe working practices
  • Understand fire procedures in the workplace
  • Understand emergencies and the importance of emergency procedures
  • Understand how to communicate effectively as a security operative
  • Understand recordkeeping relevant to the role of the security operative
  • Understand terror threats and the role of the security operative in the event of a threat
  • Understand how to keep vulnerable people safe
  • Understand good practice for post-incident management

    Unit 2: Principles of working as a security officer in the private security industry

    • Understand the roles and responsibilities of security officers
    • Understand the control of access and egress
    • Know the different types of electronic and physical protection systems in the security environment
    • Know how to minimise risk to personal safety at work
    • Understand drug-misuse legislation, issues and procedures relevant to the role of a security officer
    • Know how to conduct effective search procedures
    • Understand how to patrol designated areas safely

    Unit 3 - Application of conflict management in the private security industry 

    • Understand the principles of conflict management appropriate to the role
    • Understand how to recognise, assess and reduce risk in conflict situations
    • Understand the use of problem-solving techniques when resolving conflict
    • Be able to communicate to de-escalate conflict

    COURSE DETAILS

    The SIA stipulate a minimum number of contact hours and a minimum number of training days. This is a 4 day course, plus pre course distance learning.


    It is an SIA requirement that each learner is sufficiently qualified in First Aid or Emergency First Aid prior to starting the Security Officers course. 

     This certificate must be valid for at least 12 months from the course start date. Ubique are able to deliver the applicable First Aid training for learners who do not meet this standard. 


    The Security Officer course can be delivered at our dedicated training facilities throughout the UK, but can also be delivered at your work premises (subject to meeting the requirements). 

    COURSE FEES INCLUDE

    Our SIA approved Level 2 Award for Security Officers in the Private Security Industry course includes:

    • 4 days of contact time training, plus pre course distance learning
    • All training aids, including handbooks
    • Level 2 Award for Security Officers in the Private Security Industry certification

    Please note that an SIA licence is required following successful completion of the training to work as a Security Officer.
