June 2021

Ubique are delighted to have secured a contract with the World Institute for Nuclear Security (WINS) to support the Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP) in Thailand. Ubique are to provide specialist support in the preparation, delivery and assessment of a series of national Radioactive Source Security Management (RSSM) training courses.

This contract award follows on from our success supporting the programme thus far. Ubique and the National Skills Academy for Nuclear (NSAN) initially supported the creation of tools and guidance for OAP to be able to undertake a national security Training Needs Analysis (TNA). Subsequently we supported the design and delivery of a bespoke Train the Trainer Course on Technical Skills for the delivery of the RSSM training courses, and our ongoing support includes contributing to the creation of a National Nuclear Security Training Strategy for Thailand.

The WINS/OAP Partnership project, funded by Global Affairs Canada’s Weapons Threat Reduction Program, supports the future establishment and sustainable operation of a Nuclear Security Support Centre (NSSC) at OAP and supports international commitments to enhance competence.

Ubique appreciates the significance of being selected to directly support such a prestigious international project and continue to be recognised and trusted by WINS as a high-quality provider.

Richard Ross, Managing Director of Ubique Risk Management presented at a dedicated Institute for Strategic Risk Management webinar to provide a high level overview of the UK Civil Nuclear Industry’s security management programme, looking at multi-agency collaboration, nuclear industry security principles, and the need to model and engage with emerging threats, including potential malicious actors.

The free to attend event open to a global audience was very well received and was an honour for us to have had the platform.

Ubique Risk Management partners the National Skills Academy for Nuclear (NSAN) again on a consultancy contract with the World Institute for Nuclear Security (WINS) who are supporting the Thai Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP) in Thailand.

Ubique and NSAN are designing and delivering a bespoke Train the Trainer Course on Technical Skills for Radioactive Source Security in Thailand on behalf of WINS for the OAP. The course will provide the delegate trainers with the knowledge and skills to deliver this specialist in-house course.

Ubique Risk Management's partnership consortium were selected by Norwegian Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (DSA) to support its activities related to nuclear safety and security over the next 2-4 four years.

This appointment is international recognition of our reputations as specialist providers of safety and security risk management services. This contract was awarded under framework arrangements that are potentially worth up to £4m for the consortium over the next four years. 

The consortium was awarded the contracts by DSA in the face of stiff international competition. The consortium include Ubique Risk Management, ARC, NSG Environmental, Matom, Cerberus Nuclear and Quintessa. The partners bring their own leading expertise in providing a comprehensive range of services in decommissioning, waste management, radiation protection, shielding, risk assessment, safety and security.

Richard Ross, Ubique's Managing Director, said: “This is a significant appointment for us, because our combined calibre and experience has clearly been recognised. It shows that small and medium sized enterprises can compete against the large international consortia in open competition."

Ubique Risk Management is proud to partner the National Skills Academy for Nuclear (NSAN) on a consultancy contract with the World Institute for Nuclear Security (WINS) who are supporting the Thai Office of Atoms for  Peace (OAP) in Thailand.

Ubique and NSAN have collaboratively developed training needs analysis and competency framework methodologies for a variety of Thai  stakeholders primarily involved in the security of radioactive sources. This includes regulators, national security, law enforcement agencies, and site licence holders. The project will provide the tools and guidance for OAP to undertake and develop their own training needs analysis and subsequently develop a bespoke Thai competency framework.

Ubique Risk Management actively participate in a Specialist Training Providers Workshop to directly assist the United Kingdom Government's 'Nuclear Skills Strategy Group' (NSSG) and the 'National Skills Academy for Nuclear' (NSAN).  

The workshop intention was to directly support NSSG in identifying Nuclear Skills Challenges with Employers, support and publicity mechanisms, upskilling Providers and Employers, and to discuss the UK Government's Strategic Plan and incumbent Civil Nuclear Sector Deal.

The workshop proved very useful for NSSG who have taken the learning back to their Government teams for development and enhancement in direct support both the Civil Nuclear Industry and Military Nuclear Sector.
